THE ITALIAN’S WIFE BY SUNSET
- Lucy Gordon ![]() The Rinucci Brothers - Book 1 A Perfect 10 Harlequin Romance #3968 ISBN-13: 978-0-373-03968-5 ISBN-10: 0-373-03968-9 August 2007 Contemporary Romance Naples, Italy and London, England - Present Day Della Hadley owns a successful production company in London. She's producing a television series that will showcase places around the world where great historical events happened. All she needs now is an academic, one who is charismatic, charming, and intelligent enough to front the series while making it accessible to audiences, but this is easier said than done. Then Della’s assistant sends her a copy of up-and-coming archaeologist Carlo Rinucci’s resume. Although his credentials are impressive, one look at Carlo on her computer screen, and Della can’t help but think that he is too young, too good-looking, and just too much. If Della is a thirty-seven year old sensible and mature woman, then why is she on a plane to Naples determined to meet Carlo Rinucci in person? THE ITALIAN’S WIFE BY SUNSET starts off as an entertaining romance full of witty conversations, a searing physical attraction between the hero and heroine, and all this set against the backdrop of Naples, Italy. Then the story takes a turn and becomes richer and deeper because of it. On the surface, Carlo is easygoing, bright, and a bit of a playboy but after meeting Della, all that changes; she is the one for him. Della is just as attracted to Carlo, and decides to treat herself to an affair, all the while thinking that in the end they will part with pleasant sensual memories between them. Instead they find a once in a lifetime kind of love, but the course of true love never runs smooth. Secondary characters include Carlo’s big, messy, but loving Italian family headed by Carlo’s mother who is as strong willed as Della, and Della’s son, Sol. With themes involving Elizabeth Barrett Browning, her poetry, and a well-known romantic movie classic, THE ITALIAN’S WIFE BY SUNSET is unabashedly romantic. Yet by the end, something honest, real, and quite beautiful has come out of the story and will stay with readers long after the book is completed, which is why I am giving THE ITALIAN’S WIFE BY SUNSET a Perfect 10.
