After all of her years as a demon-hunter, Lady Dawn Maybank can
easily tell that there is one in the vicinity of the university
building where she works. Wise to their tricks, Dawn has no intention
of falling under this demon’s spell. Yet when he offers her
the Demon’s Stone, a black diamond that her father and the
Cadre have been searching for for over a century, Dawn is willing
to listen. Galen McManus explains that he is an incubus, and he’ll
hand over the diamond to Dawn in exchange for five nights with her.
Returning the diamond to the Cadre will earn Dawn the respect she
has always craved from her father -- the Earl of St. Yve and leader
of the Cadre -- so Dawn agrees to this devil’s bargain.
What Dawn seems to have forgotten is that demons lie. Because Galen
is no incubus, but rather a vengeance demon that Dawn has unknowingly
called forth from the Dark Realm. While Galen may help Dawn get
vengeance on those who trouble her, ultimately Dawn will pay the
price. By day, Galen carries out his Directive, and at night he
enjoys himself in Dawn’s arms. But something Galen could never
have imagined begins to happen -- he begins to care about what may
happen to his mortal lover.
NIGHT MISCHIEF is the third book in the Dark Enchantments series,
and while, for the most part, the story is Dawn and Galen’s,
it may be helpful to have prior knowledge of the Cadre and its mission.
For four hundred years, the earls of St Yve have led the Cadre in
their efforts to research Otherworldly Entities and to protect humanity
from evil. Dawn is the younger of the latest earl’s twin daughters,
and as such she cannot inherit, either the earldom or the position
of leader of the Cadre. She has always felt inferior to her perfect
sister, and being denied the status of Adept only makes things worse.
While her desire to make her father proud of her is the impetus
for her rash bargain with Galen, it isn’t the only reason.
There’s a very strong sexual attraction between them, which
leads to quite a few highly erotic scenes. Galen is a little more
difficult to understand at first, but as we learn more about him,
it’s easy to see what the attraction is for Dawn.
Whether you’ve read the previous stories or not, NIGHT MISCHIEF
is an intriguing paranormal tale that should not be missed.
