Durango, Colorado Area – Present Day
Brianna Stewart is bent on finding the fugitive who assaulted her
sister and killed another woman, and she’s willing to offer
one million dollars to the best bounty hunter -- Tanner Wolfe. The
wily criminal she’s after has been spotted in the mountains
of Colorado and the terrain is rough and the capture will not be
easy. There’s just one caveat that Brianna presents to Tanner…she
must go with him on the search.
Tanner thinks hunting a killer is not something a high-class female
like Brianna should be involved in. But the lady is persistent and
won’t take no for an answer. Tanner knows if he refuses, she’ll
find another bounty hunter who just might acquiesce to her demands.
Tanner devises a plan to shake Brianna, but doesn’t count
on her persistence. Lo and behold, she’s soon out in the rugged
mountains chasing after Tanner…with a killer on the loose
nearby. Now he has to look for his quarry and fight his growing
attraction to Brianna.
Though raised in a wealthy family, Brianna hasn’t rested
on her family’s laurels. She’s smart and not afraid
to go after something, even if there’s danger involved. Her
sister’s emotional breakdown after the brutal attack has Brianna
on a mission to bring to justice the man responsible. Learning that
Tanner is the man for the job, she’s willing to put up the
money, just as long as she’s there for the capture.
Tanner prefers to work alone. He sees Brianna as a pampered, brainless,
high society twit who probably wouldn’t know how to saddle
a horse. To his surprise, Brianna is just as capable of taking care
of herself as any man. However, Brianna is all woman, something
Tanner is soon very much aware of. He can’t get involved with
her because she’s hired him, but that doesn’t stop him
from wanting her. Will they get their man…and each other...in
the end?
An exciting story that’s filled with tension and emotion,
MAVERICK will have readers on the edge of their seats. The man Brianna
and Tanner chase after won’t go without a fight, while the
isolated and mountainous terrain could prove to be their biggest
challenge. My only wish for MAVERICK was that it was a longer book.
Certainly too short to show the true obstacles faced by Tanner and
Brianna, but, nonetheless, readers will surely enjoy this tale of
survival and the smoldering heat that rises between them.
In Joan Hohl’s author letter in the front of MAVERICK, she
tells readers about the obstacles she’s faced to return to
writing. Welcome back, Ms. Hohl, and what a grand way to return
to the publishing fold.
