Santa Rey, California ~ Present Day
Years ago, firefighter Aidan Donnelly and actress
Mackenzie Stafford were romantically involved, but all that ended
when Aidan decided he didn’t want a commitment. However,
Aidan has never really forgotten Kenzie, especially since she’s
now a star on television, as well as the sister of a fellow firefighter.
Kenzie’s brother, Blake, was recently killed just as he
was identified as the person responsible for a string of arson
fires. Imagine Aidan’s surprise when his unit is called
to an explosion on a boat…and finds Kenzie, who was nearly
blown to bits.
Kenzie feels her brother is innocent. Her show now
cancelled, she arrives in Santa Rey bent on proving his innocence.
Alas, her first night on Blake’s boat, it’s blown
to smithereens, and Aidan, the last man she wants to see, rescues
her. Aidan is skeptical of Kenzie’s plan to prove her brother
didn’t do it, especially when it appears someone else is
also not very happy about her investigation. But being around
Aidan has the old desires rising hot and furious again. Could
a couple of bouts of sex cure them of the itch? Will Aidan have
to protect her, as well as his heart?
FLASHBACK opens with an explosion that soon explodes
into passion between reunited lovers Aidan and Kenzie. A lot of
unfinished business lies between them, though neither really wants
to finish it. The fire on Blake’s boat is mysterious, as
are any motives someone might have had for setting the fires.
Kenzie feels frustrated because an innocent (and dead) man is
being dragged through the mud. She’ll do whatever it takes
to clear his name. As for her feelings for Aidan, it soon becomes
apparent the desire between them is still there too. So, why not
act upon them and then walk away?
Aidan is a hot firefighter, no pun intended. He’s
well built and handsome and has the pick of any lady he wants.
But every so often, his thoughts wandered to Kenzie, wondering
how she was doing as he watched her career rise. Coming face to
face with her after all these years stuns him. She’s beautiful
and sexy, and very much off limits. Blake was his friend, too,
but getting involved with an arsonist’s sister is not something
his bosses would look kindly upon, especially if it appears as
if he’s assisting her amateur investigation.
Jill Shalvis has crafted another spectacular tale
among the firefighters at Firehouse Thirty-Four. The suspense
is as sizzling as the love scenes are. FLASHBACK is a sequel to
FLASHPOINT (July 2008) and you won’t want to miss either
book as the arson investigation is finally solved. Pick up your
copy of FLASHBACK for a page-turning read.
