– Present Day
Patricia “Patsy” Donahue had a hard life,
and her life as a vampire isn’t looking like a cake walk
either. Before she was turned along with eleven other single parents,
Patsy was a beautician, and she ran the beauty shop her Nonna
started before she died. Now, she sees dead people, including
her Nonna, is trying to keep her son on the straight and narrow
and is fighting with her friends and the Consortium about moving
into the “compound” and wondering why she needs an
incredibly handsome shapeshifting bodyguard, Gabriel. Not that
she minds the eye candy, and when she is attacked by a demon,
having that large white wolf protecting her isn’t so bad.
But she would like to know why the demons are attacking her, and
why the Consortium tells her that Gabriel isn’t the bodyguard
they assigned her, and where has her son run off to this time?
All great questions, and Gabriel is the only one who seems willing
to give her any answers. But can Patsy trust him with everything
that she holds dear; her son, her safety, and her heart? Only
time will tell.
BECAUSE YOUR VAMPIRE SAID SO is the third book in
the Broken Heart, Oklahoma series, and while I found the book
entertaining and the characters enjoyable, the story seemed incomplete.
With so many things happening in Patsy’s life there was
not enough time for the characters to resolve the situations,
so they were just made to disappear. For example, Patsy’s
son, Wilson, has a drug and alcohol problem, and he’s not
interacting with his mother; then, near the end, he approaches
her and admits that he has a problem, and she says that they’ll
get him help. That was it; no previous discussions between them,
no indication of what kind of help; it just seemed like a cop-out.
There are other problems with some of the elements of the book.
I can’t specify, because they occur at the end of the book,
and one total inconsistency in the world building of the series
is actually in the epilogue and would definitely be a spoiler.
All in all, though, I enjoyed BECAUSE YOUR VAMPIRE
SAID SO and hope some of the inconsistencies can be explained
in future books, but I was a little frustrated with the way many
issues in this novel were ended without real resolution.
