Denver, Colorado – Present Day

Kitty Norville had vowed never to return to Denver. The city has too many bad memories -- the attack that made her a werewolf, the Pack alphas that enslaved her, and the death of her best friend and confidant. But when Kitty learns that her mother is seriously ill, there is nothing she can do but return to her hometown with her mate, Ben, in tow. Determined to keep her head down and avoid the Pack, Kitty instead finds herself drawn into Pack and vampire politics. But Kitty isn’t the same woman who left Denver almost a year ago. She’s stronger and so is her wolf. But is she ready to become Pack alpha?

KITTY AND THE SILVER BULLET is a rollicking good time as author Carrie Vaughn keeps upping the ante for her trouble-prone heroine. Kitty is her usual smart-alecky self, although Ben seems to have mellowed her quite a bit. In the previous three books in the series, Kitty was growing up and finding her sea legs as a rogue werewolf. In this tale, a more mature woman and wolf come to the stage. Readers get to learn a bit more about Ben, but a lot more about Kitty’s family. Judging by her mother, it’s immediately obvious where Kitty gets her chutzpah. But there is still somewhat of an innocence to her that is absolutely endearing. Kitty returns to Denver to support her family during her mother’s illness. She never expects to get involved in a turf war between Master vampires, but the dysfunction of the werewolf Pack forces her hand. Will she be strong enough to keep everyone safe, werewolf and human alike?

I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to keep a series running with such a heightened intensity, but Ms. Vaughn does it well with characters that have grown, but remain true to themselves. If you’re looking for a great series to enjoy, you can’t go wrong with Kitty Norville and KITTY AND THE SILVER BULLET is a welcome addition. I can’t wait for the next installment of the series and the brief excerpt at the end of the book just whets the appetite even more.
