Somerset, England – 1822

Matthew’s uncle, Lord John, has been keeping him prisoner by declaring that Matthew is mad as a result of a childhood fever. In a sadistic move, Lord John orders his henchmen, Monks and Filey, to find a whore for the young man. Anna Campbell uses stark bleakness and somber settings in her narrative of a hero and heroine who prove that teamwork and love can overcome all obstacles. She knows how to keep one’s attention.
