Abrielle of Harrington's step-father, Vachel de Gerard, served
his country well during the crusades and is looking forward to
his promised monetary reward. Abrielle and her mother, Elspeth,
are proud of him and know that he deserves payment for services
rendered as well as accolades.
Abrielle is beautiful and, until recently, was betrothed to Lord
Weldon de Marlé. Due to his unexpected death, and a reversal
of fortune for Vachel because he loaned his father money that
was never repaid, the family finds itself in dire straits. Things
turn even bleaker when the only reward Vachel receives from King
Henry is a thank you.
With no dowry, Abrielle has little hope for an advantageous marriage.
In desperation, she agrees to marry Weldon's cousin, Desmond de
Marlé, a man she despises. She won't let her mother and
step-father be destitute society outcasts.
Raven Seabern, an emissary of King David of Scotland, is at court
when Vachel's hopes of a reward are dashed. He is a warrior and
is not pleased with King Henry's actions. He also falls for Abrielle
and determines to help her, even have her for his wife if she
agrees. What a tangle that will be. But will he be able to rescue
Abrielle and not risk his own life in the process? There are many
obstacles along the path to love and happiness.
EVERLASTING is alive with history and peopled with believable
characters. Abrielle isn't your run-of-the-mill damsel in distress,
and Raven is not a bully. His kindness shows through in his dealings
with his men, his father, servants, and Abrielle. But when danger
comes from unexpected sources, he proves his mettle by saving
many lives. Good and bad characters, Abrielle's best friend, Cordelia;
Laird Cedric, Raven's father; Nedda, Mordea, Thurston, Colbert,
and others add to this rousing tale.
EVERLASTING is a special story of love, commitment, and family,
told with Ms. Woodiwiss's always present style, charm, and wit.
It is a perfect last gem in a brilliant career.
Rest in Peace, Kathleen Woodiwiss. I miss you.
