New York City, N.Y. – Present day

What You Wish For – Wendy Markham

With only one month until her wedding, Delaney Maguire is cleaning out her apartment in preparation for moving in with her soon-to-be-husband, Bob, when she finds a key she doesn’t recognize in her desk. Believing it may have belonged to one of her ex-boyfriends, Delaney, who is having a raving case of cold feet, decides that she needs to find out who this mysterious key’s owner is. Suddenly, this key becomes a symbol of all the changes in her life, and Delaney starts to have doubts about everything. Is Bob the man she is meant to spend the rest of her life with?

Because it is told in second-person, What You Wish For can be a bit confusing at times, but overall it is an enjoyable story. Delaney and Bob are total opposites, and it’s understandable that as the big day approaches, Delaney wonders if she is doing the right thing.

Lola Was Here – Lynn Messina

Lola Reynolds, internationally renowned conceptual artist, is running a bit scared. She has had two very successful showings of her photographs -- landscapes juxtaposed with homemade postcards -- but to Lola, the phenomenal success she’s achieved is a fluke. She has returned to New York City, escaping from the gallery owner who is anxious to showcase her newest project …the one she hasn’t even started. Maybe coming home is just the thing Lola needs.

Lola Was Here takes place during the course of one night. Unsure of her career path, Lola takes stock of her life while catching up with old friends, such as Ginger, who is also an artist. Trying to put her past and future in perspective, Lola finds unexpected inspiration with her former boyfriend, James.

The Waitress – Daniella Brodsky

Kate Lieve is once again a bridesmaid, and probably for the last time. Stacey is the last of Kate’s group of friends to get married. Now, when she’s about to become the only single person in her circle of friends, Kate begins to wonder if she’ll ever find that special someone just for her. A waitress at Sundae’s, Kate meets many interesting men, but nothing ever comes of it...until she meets Glenn, a man who seems to know her as no one ever has. Now, if only he didn’t wear a wedding ring.

Kate is a woman who has not had an easy life, but manages to make the best of what she has. In The Waitress, we follow along on her journey as she tries to decide if it’s better to settle for whatever is available rather than the alternative of being alone.

NEVER ON A SUNDAE is an entertaining anthology with three very talented authors. All of the stories involve the Manhattan diner, Sundae’s, where comfort food can be found for any woman at a crossroads in her life. After all, no problem looks as bad over an ice cream sundae.
