Romantic Comedy

Los Angeles, California – Present Day

Margot Hart loves working at the literary agency because she loves reading romance, and she gets a chance to read submissions. However, after years of working there, she feels like she deserves a promotion in the company as an agent. She keeps on the good side of her boss, even sleeping with him from time to time. But Margot is faced with the reality that her boss doesn’t want to promote her. She finally has had enough and quits on the spot during one of her meetings with him.

Three years ago, Margot connected with Oliver on a dating app, but when their first date turned disastrous, she realized they weren’t meant to be. However, he pops up as a match for her just about every time she’s on the site. They have a sort of friendly texting relationship. Oliver seems nice, but he isn’t the one. Yet, after Margot loses her job, she turns to him when he offers to help her get her literacy agency off the ground. She plans to keep it as a “friends only” relationship, yet she can’t stop thinking about him at times. Is she becoming attracted to him?

Margot is a romantic at heart and dreams of meeting her forever man in a meet-cute situation. Of course, using dating apps isn’t exactly the way that is going to happen, but she keeps trying. The men she dates are a bit extreme, like they think she should cook for them. She has a tumultuous relationship with her sister, Audrey, who is a successful influencer and is married with two children. As such, Margot feels like a failure. But her dream is to be an agent, and she has good relationships with several authors, including a popular romance author who wants to step outside the romance genre into horror. Margot’s boss is dead set against it, while she likes the writing and is intrigued, though it needs some changes. This is another thing that ends with Margot and her boss butting heads. It comes to a head in their meeting about her promotion.

Now that Margot is unemployed in, WE MET LIKE THIS, she must decide what to do next. Her roommate, Sloane, encourages her to start her own literary agency, and Oliver, who seems to pop up out of the blue, is supportive. Websites are his thing, and he offers to build hers. They grow closer, and readers sense that they are falling for each other. She learns why he treated her the way he did that first night they were out on a date. She still thinks they aren’t the perfect match, yet they seem to blend so well together. Should she reconsider her rejection of him? There are several scenes in WE MET LIKE THIS that show that they have sexual chemistry. Will they take the next step? But readers sense that he is holding back a little. Up until they got closer, he seemed like an open book. Now he won’t even meet her family. Is there a reason?

If you love a flirty romantic comedy that will make you laugh and make you sympathize with the female character, then WE MET LIKE THIS is the perfect read for you. Don’t miss this fun tale.
