Port Benedict – Present Day Kimiko Halim hasn’t had the best of luck in love, so she certainly isn’t looking for a happily ever after, just a man to be her boyfriend temporarily so that she can inherit her late grandmother’s yarn shop. There’s a clause in the will with an expiration date for Kim to have found “love.” It doesn't specify marriage. Only that she needs a steady boyfriend. Dating apps haven’t helped, so after Rob Carmichael, a friend of a friend, overhears her dilemma, he offers to help her find the perfect match. He has five upcoming weddings to attend, and Kim can be his date. He will even help narrow the list down to several potentially suitable dates. He knows what he’s doing because he has played matchmaker in his family. She agrees, and they start attending the weddings. But the men who look good on paper aren’t really Kim’s perfect match. However, it is soon becoming clear that her perfect match is…Rob. Readers are in for a fun time as Rob and Kim attend weddings, and he’s in the background during her dates with the men that he’s picked out for her. However, in HOW TO FIND A GUY IN FIVE WEDDINGS, what looks good on paper doesn’t translate to reality. Kim lives and cares for her invalid grandfather and runs the yarn shop. Her grandparents raised her after her mother died in childbirth and her father ditched his parental responsibilities. Kim had a boyfriend, but their relationship ended when he dumped her. Meanwhile, the shop is facing a potential closure due to a creeping shopping mall that wants to take over her shop (and the other buildings around it). At this point, her hands are tied until she can get control of the business, because if not, then her grandmother’s legacy will be lost. Rob is Kim’s best friend’s fiancé’s friend. Because they all hung out, Kim and Rob got to know each other. He’s easygoing and helpful, especially to her when she gets in a bind. Her grandfather even likes Rob. He doesn’t have a girlfriend, but he is getting over a broken relationship. The ex-girlfriend will be attending the five weddings, so this is another reason that Rob needs Kim to attend with him. Of course, now that they are spending a lot of time together, the two are getting to know each other. And an attraction is developing… Readers will see early on in HOW TO FIND A GUY IN FIVE WEDDINGS that Kim and Rob are great together. It takes most of this tale before they realize the truth, and even then, there is a bit of a denial. They mesh perfectly, even as they banter and argue back and forth. There are plenty of scenes that will leave you chuckling, as well as some that will leave you weepy. Kim loves her grandfather because he is her rock. Will Kim and Rob finally see the light and realize that they’re falling for each other? Don’t miss the fun in this highly entertaining tale. Patti Fischer |
