Texas - The Present

Lance Kingston is every woman's dream: successful owner of his own magazine, personable, and handsome. He hadn't found the right woman until he saw Tia Jiles, a beautiful lawyer, but also a woman who cares about others as her community service program, Pay If Forward, shows. This is important to Lance. While his mother still promotes his former girlfriend Crystal, whom he caught cheating on him, as wife material, Lance begins to court Tia. It isn't easy as Tia is very wary of any relationship.

After several disastrous romances, Tia comes to love Lance. He is a great guy and she wonders how he could possibly be interested in someone like her. At first out of personal experience and later at on her mother's advice, she doesn't tell Lance everything he needs to know. This omission will lead to disaster once she accepts his proposal of marriage.

THE SECRET SHE KEPT is a difficult but compelling read. Tia and Lance's romance takes a long time to establish before the wedding, but it is important to the rest of the story. Lance is a true hero, and the way his family and Tia's interfere in their marriage would stress any couple. It is Tia's secret and her mother's denial of mental disease that puts the marriage in jeopardy, especially when Tia becomes pregnant. Her episodes make gripping reading, leaving one to wonder how the characters, let alone the marriage, can survive. Read THE SECRET SHE KEPT for a very different romance containing emotional suspense that will fill you with outrage, fear, and ultimately, compassion and understanding.
