Holiday Bay, Michigan – Present Day Julie Alleen has spent her entire life in the small town of Holiday Bay and runs a home décor shop. But her livelihood is being threatened by a billionaire who plans to buy up all the stores in the downtown area and tear them down to turn them into warehouses for his online retail company. One notable thing about the town is that the now-defunct boy band Holiday Boys was founded there. In fact, Julie had a crush on one of the band members as they attended the same school. Jake Reynolds left the band years ago, which caused the breakup, and he’s gone on to even bigger stardom. If only Jake would come to town and help save it. Then, her friend, Megan, records Julie begging for help from Jake, and it goes viral. To her shock, he shows up at her store. He’s interested in helping the town. Imagine growing up with future pop stars and idolizing them. That is what happened to Julie, and she even has a huge picture of Jake on her store’s wall. She figures Jake has put the town in his rearview mirror, but she doesn’t know that he secretly purchased a secluded home just outside the city limits. Jake wants to help Holiday Bay, and what Julie doesn’t realize is that he is in the process of getting the old band back together for a reunion tour. Why not start with a charity concert in town, with the proceeds going to help businesses? Their first meeting was a bit awkward. Jake is, after all, a superstar. Julie is just a small-town girl. He shows interest in dating her, but there is a bit of a problem with that. Julie is asexual, which means she has no sexual feelings toward someone she might be attracted to. Is there any chance for anything between them beyond that of friends? In HIS SMALL-TOWN CHALLENGE there are a couple of secondary stories going on. Julie is dealing with a teenage boy who is bringing her beautiful, handcrafted furniture. She has never met Dylan’s father, but readers will soon figure out there is a connection between Jake and Dylan. Also, Megan is getting married, but the wedding planning is going to hell because of her future mother-in-law. Will it happen? You will have to read this tale to find out. A bit of an unusual tale that will pull you in, HIS SMALL-TOWN CHALLENGE will hit the spot if you’ve ever lived in a small town and hate that online sites are forcing the closure of your hometown stores.
