Star Falls, California – Present Day Retired hockey player Caleb Colburn is busy taking care of his disabled father and trying to prove to his brother, Ryder, that he can be an asset to the family construction business. One particular job, remodeling an older mansion, finds Caleb encountering an old foe from college, Emma Sumner. She hates him, but he isn’t sure why. He was a hockey player in college, even earning a scholarship, but his career ended when he suffered an injury. He’d noticed Emma in college, but she gave off a “do not touch” vibe. Now that they are both single, he must admit that he’s intrigued and interested in her, but she practically snarls at him when they meet. She is a temporary architect at the firm that the brothers are working with. Unfortunately, Caleb and Emma have to work together on the mansion project, and they can’t help but interact with each other. Why does Emma dislike Caleb? Other than the fact that he’s an overbearing, overconfident male, he also stole a scholarship away from her in college. He doesn’t seem to care what it ended up doing to her. She was already living a hand-to-mouth existence, but that scholarship would have helped her. Emma needs the job at the architecture firm because she hopes that it will lead to her getting hired permanently. However, at the moment, she is homeless and is sleeping in her car…and secretly using the mansion to take showers. Her pride isn’t going to admit to anyone, especially Caleb, that she is homeless. Yet, wherever she turns, there he is. And she can’t deny there’s an attraction blooming between them. In FREE FALLING, we watch Caleb and Emma fall in love. He has been warned by his brothers, Ryder and Tucker, not to sleep with someone they are working with. Of course, that still doesn’t stop Caleb from wanting Emma, though she is pretty sure she doesn’t want to get involved with a manwhore like him! Besides, she can’t let anyone know she’s homeless. She has a “reputation” to maintain with her boss that she has it all together. Emma is slowly and surely drawn into the Colburn family. Besides Caleb, there is his brother Ryder and his fiancée, Penny (their story is in HE FALLS FIRST, out now). His other brother, Tucker, is a firefighter when he isn’t working for the company. He seems to be at odds with Hazel, who is skittish around him. Their sister, Keira, is a single mom with two rambunctious twins. Meanwhile, their father, Hank Colburn, is much different now than he was years ago due to a couple of strokes he had. Readers will love the fun and flirty FREE FALLING as Emma and Caleb banter back and forth. Sometimes it turns serious, but a lot of it is just plain cute and sexy. They are as independent as they can be, but they soon realize that they will need to turn to each other. Of course, not without a loud protest as they take two steps forward and one step backward.
