Couer d'Alene, Idaho - Present Day

When it comes to women, Eric Collins has always been up front about being there for a good time, not a long time.  Lately though, he's started thinking about the possibility of commitment – possibly because of his younger brother's relationship, or maybe because most of his oldest friends think he's nothing but a manwhore – but Eric is seriously considering it.  When he meets Jean Antal, Eric is debating dating versus rushing her to bed; right up until he realizes she's pregnant.  Eric never thought of himself as daddy material and was proven right a year earlier when he let down the woman carrying his baby which resulted in a miscarriage.  Jean may be hot, but Eric's not about to get involved with a mommy-to-be.

Yet, with Jean living across the hall from him, it's hard to avoid her completely, and when she goes into labor during a snowstorm and her birth coach is ill, Eric finds himself stepping in. Before long, the man who had no interest in commitment is not only living a celibate life (to prove he's not a manwhore), but he's enjoying the platonic evenings spent with his neighbor and her newborn.  When Jean wants to take their relationship to the next level, Eric is more than willing – but is he ready?

The  Dive Bar  series follows a group of friends who grew up together and are now working to make the historic Dive Bar one of the best restaurant/bars in town.  Over the past few years, several of the friends have found love and settled into committed relationships, but Eric has held fast to his single lifestyle and love ‘em and leave ‘em ways.  However, he's started thinking about trying commitment and readers are treated to the results in CHASER.  Having met Eric in the previous books, we know him as someone who is a bit self-involved and definitely enjoys the perks of single life.  He's charming, sexy, and the hot bartender at a popular club – of course he doesn't have trouble with women.  From the first though, things don't go as planned with Jean.  Their initial flirting stumbles to a halt when he realizes she's pregnant but that doesn't mean he stops thinking about her.  Jean had been a bit of wild child and getting pregnant was not in her plans.  The baby's father isn't going to be a part of her life, and her own parents' lack of support is why she uprooted her life and moved to Couer d'Alene.  Though a bit wary of Eric at first, she sees him in ways his long-time friends don't, and she learns that he is someone she can count on.

As with the rest of the  Dive Bar  novels, CHASER is told in first-person narrative, but this time the story is told by Eric.  It's interesting and fun to have his point of view on everything from being single to celibacy to parenthood.  He isn't perfect and makes a mistake or three, but in the end he's a good guy who will make you laugh and make you believe that even bad boys can be reformed.  An entertaining and surprising romance, CHASER is a book I highly recommend.
