WORTH THE RISK – Charlene Sands
Book 3 of the Contemporary Worths of Red Ridge
Harlequin Desire #2190
Present Day Scottsdale and Red Ridge, Arizona
Sammie Gold's move from Boston to Arizona is her chance for a fresh start. The recent death of her father and the theft of most of her money by her accountant boyfriend precipitate the move. She liquidates everything left, and plans to reopen her boot boutique in Scottsdale, Arizona. That way she'll be near the closest person she has to a family, her college roommate and best friend, Callie Worth, who lives on the Worth Ranch near Red Ridge. Callie's brother-in-law, Jackson Worth, is a business mogul as well as one of the three Worth brothers who share in the family ranch. Callie told Sammie that Jackson would be in Las Vegas at the same time Sammie would be there attending a shoe convention. Why don't they plan to meet?
Whew! What an auspicious and embarrassing meeting! Jackson agrees to invest in the boutique, and he and Sammie become partners. So what's so embarrassing about that? Well, Sammie has a low tolerance for alcohol, and she should not have had that second celebratory glass. She awakes next morning next to Jackson with little or no memory of the night…though it's obvious what occurred. Neither is ready for a relationship; both have been burned in the past. Jackson has everything a woman could want, looks, charm, a warm family, and a fortune. For Sammie, it's his looks and his family, and then there's the way he makes her feel. Too bad he's a sworn bachelor, content to be an uncle, never a husband. They agree to forget about their night together and to never tell anyone. The last part is difficult; Sammie has never kept secrets from Cassie. But forget about it? Try as they might, that's impossible for Sammie…and for Jackson.
Sammie and Jackson spend a lot of time together, what with all the work getting the Boot Barrage ready to open and the way Sammie has fit right into the extended Worth family. They will be co-Godparents to Callie and brother Tagg's coming baby. There are also Clay Worth and his wife Trish and baby Meggie. Besides all his other attributes, Jackson is wonderful with kids!
Full of warmth, challenge, and passion, WORTH THE RISK is an excellent conclusion to the Worths of Red Ridge saga. Besides Taggart and Callie's tale in CARRYING THE RANCHER'S HEIR (Desire #2088) and Clay and Trish's in THE COWBOY'S PRIDE (Desire #2127), Ms. Sands has written a prequel, A COWBOY WORTH CLAIMING (out last April in Harlequin Historical #1083), about the Worth family founder.
If you enjoy hunky cowboys with hearts and the women who challenge and win them, the Worths of Red Ridge are for you.
