Pea Blossom, Indiana – Present Day

Textile artist Sadie Fox left her hometown of Pea Blossom behind when she hotfooted it to California years ago. Her father operates a pumpkin farm that is infamous in the town. Her relationship with her father isn’t the greatest, but she agrees to return home for several weeks to take care of the pumpkins and enter the yearly pumpkin festival in October while he goes to Florida to care for his invalid brother. Sadie arrives and soon discovers that the pumpkin patch has been obliterated by a pack of marauding hogs owned by a next-door neighbor. She literally screams in frustration, which catches the attention of her father’s other neighbor, former tech darling Josh Thatcher. How can she enter the biggest and heaviest pumpkin contest when there are no longer any pumpkins? But with Josh’s help, Sadie is soon back in business. Plus, she is getting to know Josh a whole lot more. But life isn’t easy for Sadie as she deals with one crisis after another. 

Sadie grew up in a broken home. Her relationship with her father isn’t the best, but at least they communicate. Her mother, who happens to also live in Pea Blossom, is a basket case who blames Sadie for still being tied to Sadie’s father. The one good thing about her mother is that she provided a half-sister for Sadie. Grace is a decent sibling, and she provides a shoulder for Sadie to lay her head on when she needs it. Sadie has built a life in Los Angeles, though it is hit-and-miss, depending on when she sells her textile arts to rich and/or influential buyers. However, Sadie is soon settling back into Pea Blossom, somewhat amazed at how the town has changed and hasn't changed. Josh proves to be helpful. Whenever she needs something or he thinks she needs help, he is there. When a disaster strikes, she is grateful for his help. However, it may change their friendship into something more. What she doesn’t realize is that Josh is falling for her. She has nothing to offer him as she plans to return to California once her pumpkin duties are over. Can their romance survive?

You have to know that from the moment the hogs come roaring into the pumpkin patch that things won’t be easy for Sadie. Lucky for her, Josh is her knight in shining armor. They dance a lot around each other as they toy with friendship and falling into bed together. He's a man who likes his world to be perfect, while she is less organized. But they do share the love of being independent and growing things from the ground up.
