Springville, Pennsylvania – Present Day

Esther is rushing to get to her friend's house; it's dark; she must hurry. She swallows her fear; they're after her. She can't outrun their car. She hears the powerful engine closing in on her buggy...then, nothing...

Libby Morgan has come home for her brother Trey's wedding. It's cold here in Pennsylvania, much more so than in San Francisco. But she isn't in a hurry to go back to the West coast, having quit her job as a news photographer. She's embarrassed and doesn't want her family to know yet that she's jobless, but she quit for all the right reasons. And now, this reprieve will give her time to spend with her best friend, Esther Zook, whose most recent letters disturbed Libby. Esther wrote there was trouble in her Amish family, and she needed Libby's help in Englisch law. As she snaps another wedding picture, Libby is thinking of the coming visit with Esther right after the wedding festivities.

But when she drops her camera from her eye, Libby meets Police Chief Adam Byler's gaze. She knows something is wrong. The look on Adam's face is more telling than his words. He's on his way to the hospital. Someone crashed into Esther Zook's buggy, and she's badly hurt. Adam wants Libby to stay at the reception, but her help might come in handy when dealing with the Zook family. The Amish are firm believers in forgiveness, and they will not welcome police interference in Esther's hit and run accident.

Libby's been in love with Adam since she was a teenager. The child of a drunken father who beat him continually, Adam spent much of his time on the Morgan farm with his best friend, Linc, Libby's twin brother. After a stint in the Marines, Adam returned to Springville. His relationship with Libby is strained. They've shared a few kisses, but he always turns away. Libby resorted to throwing herself at him, but still, Adam only sees her as Linc's little sister.

Now, as Esther lies in a coma, Libby is determined to help Adam investigate. Why would someone crash into Esther's buggy then leave to die? Still, the Zook family refuses Adam's offer of protection. And when the situation goes from bad to worse, Libby's camera is missing, her mother's house is broken into, and a stranger finds their way into Esther's hospital room and tries to kill her. Someone is trying to kill Esther and stop Libby from asking questions.

There is DANGER IN PLAIN SIGHT as Esther fights for her life. Adam does his best to keep Libby out of the line of fire, but he can't stop her from interfering in the investigation. He wants to protect her at all cost, and he tries to keep her safe. Esther's brother, Isaac, refuses to talk. The Amish community believes that God will forgive all, and they refuse to turn to the Englisch law.

Libby wants Adam to see that she is a grown woman. Still, Adam refuses to talk about his feelings. He hides behind his police mask, keeping his personal life out of their conversations. Still, he refuses to let Libby out of his sight, even if that means following her around town. He won't allow himself to love her; he thinks he isn't good enough for her, but someone has to keep her out of trouble.

DANGER IN PLAIN SIGHT is book three in Marta Perry's Amish Suspense Series , and follows MURDER IN PLAIN SIGHT (December 2010), and VANISHED IN PLAIN SIGHT (June 2011).
