Texas - Present Day

After breaking his ankle, Zach Delaney is forced to take it easy while he recuperates, but getting work done is proving to be difficult, thanks to his inability to keep a secretary.  The latest candidate claims to be a homebody who will have no problem being cooped up on the ranch for the remaining few weeks before Zach is up and about again, but when he sees the sultry red-headed beauty get out of her car, Zach has doubts about her.  Emma Hillman looks too much like a party girl to enjoy the solitude on the ranch, but Zach can't help but be intrigued by her.

Emma Hollings has heard that Zach Delaney is charming and handsome—and she's heard that he's an ogre to work for.  The chance to earn some extra money to finish her degree is too good to pass up though, and she's determined to stick with this job.  She hadn't counted on the attraction she feels for Zach, and avoiding any romantic entanglements will be a huge struggle for her.

Two people couldn't be more different, but surprisingly find common ground in MIDNIGHT UNDER THE MISTLETOE.  Zach's parents' indifference to parenting meant that he and his brothers grew up in boarding schools and didn't really have much of a “family” life.  His job keeps him traveling the world, and he loves being hands-on with the family company.  Emma, on the other hand, has never traveled outside the state of Texas, and has a large, close-knit family that she wouldn't want to be separated from.  She loves the holidays and is just as shocked by Zach's solitary plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas as she is by his lack of interest in the family papers she's looking through.  With such different backgrounds and lifestyles, both know that a romance between them could only be casual, and they try to keep their relationship that of employer-employee.  Yet, some things can't be stopped, as they soon find out in MIDNIGHT UNDER THE MISTLETOE.
