Sandy Shores, Oregon – Present Day During a wedding reception, the Maid of Honor, Andie Billings, and the Best Man, Colt Armstrong, hook up for a one-night stand. Both figure it’s a one-time thing, but three months later, Andie shows up at Colt’s workplace with the news that she’s pregnant with his child. Naturally, it throws him for a loop. He’s in his 40s and already has a teenage daughter from another night of indiscretion. But this time, Colt wants to be a part of his child’s life. They agree to raise the child together amicably, even buying a house for them to live in. But what does the future hold for them when they’re not in love with each other? Or is love about to enter the picture? An unexpected pregnancy brings together Andie and Colt in THE VETERAN DAD. He spent twenty years in the military and is making a new life for himself working for the fire department. While he sees his teenage daughter once a year, they really don’t have much of a relationship thanks to the girl’s mother. That is why he wants it to be different with this baby. Andie teaches at a school and is barely two years out of her divorce. She is in her late thirties and figured that having children wasn’t going to be part of her life. However, the night with Colt proved her wrong. She doesn’t want him to feel trapped, but he’s made it clear that he wants to be there for her. At times, he is almost hovering over her. They kind of dance around what happened the night they made love, as their mutual attraction isn’t discussed. Yet it’s clear in this tale that it’s still there. THE VETERAN DAD takes place over many months of Andie’s pregnancy, from the night she conceived to the summer. A lot happens, of course, but it’s the start of them building a life together. There are not really any love scenes because they’re mostly implied. It’s about their emotional journey to becoming parents and a family. Things are tentative between them at first. She doesn’t want to deny that she’s attracted to him, just as he feels like he is not worthy of a woman’s love. They have to work on building trust with each other and within themselves. Will it take them down the path to a forever kind of love, despite the roadblocks that are a bit bumpy along the way? Unexpected consequences of giving in to an unexpected attraction lead to a surprise baby. Don’t miss Colt and Andie’s journey by grabbing a copy of THE VETERAN DAD. Patti Fischer |
