Contemporary Series Romance

Sandy Shores, Oregon – Present Day

Single mother Cassie Donovan moved to Sandy Shores with her daughter, Amelia, to escape the stares and gossip after her airline pilot husband was blamed for the crash that killed him, and everyone onboard the plane. With the help of her sister, Cassie rented an upstairs apartment without meeting the landlord, who lives downstairs. She doesn’t make a good first impression on the day she moves in when he meets her gigantic rabbit. But he soon apologizes. Turns out former veteran Braden Sullivan is a nice guy, and one who comes in handy as her downstairs landlord.

Braden might be a decorated veteran, but he feels like a failure. He left Sandy Shores to join the military when he was eighteen and came back twenty years later after his sister, who raised him, needed him because she had cancer. Unfortunately, she died and left him this house. Braden isn’t necessarily known to be friendly, but there’s something about Cassie and Amelia that draws him to them. They are soon hanging out together, and Cassie and Braden feel the first flickers of an attraction. He thinks he’s not worthy of finding love, but is Cassie changing his mind?

A HERO’S RETURN is one of those romances that bring together two people trying to rebuild their lives from scratch after a loss or disappointment. Cassie lost her husband, and it should have been a time of mourning, but when the report came out that the crash was a cockpit error, it made her and Amelia the center of gossip. A move to a new town and starting over is a bit traumatic for both. Thankfully, Braden and his dog, Cary, help Amelia get over the ups and downs. Cassie is allergic to certain foods, and it is Braden who shows how compassionate he is by helping her to work around it. One can see why she’s falling for him. Unfortunately, he still sees himself as a man not fit for marriage. Will he soon change his mind?

A sweet and emotional tale, A HERO’S RETURN does manage to work in some romance for Cassie and Braden. There are a lot of scenes with them and Amelia, and readers can see why they should be a family. As each works out their issues, they are slowly building a connection that can’t be denied. Will their separate apartments soon become one house? You will have to read A HERO’S RETURN to find out the answer.
