Peak, Virginia – Present Day

Bed & Breakfast owner Eva Espiritu is still reeling from the discovery that her late husband fathered a son while they were married. The son, Jared, popped into her life becoming the chef at her B & B and she only recently learned who he really was. To help soothe her wounded pride, she has been writing anonymously as Blue Moon in a hiking trail notebook to someone she only knows as Rolling Stone. It is left at a trail drop box and she checks it regularly. She pours her feelings into the words, though she doesn’t reveal enough to identify herself. Meanwhile, Eva must contend with the constant steam of hikers who invade her property. This is where she encounters Cruz Forrester, who owns a hiking company. They immediately clash.

Cruz is a cancer survivor and feels his life is at a crossroads because he fears the cancer will return. He loves going on solitary hikes, and it is on one of these that he first came across the journal entry written by Blue Moon. He replies with the words pouring—anonymously—onto the pages about his current mixed feelings and signs it as Rolling Stone. When he meets Eva, he does indeed clash with her, but he also admires her independence and love for her family. Cruz begins to help Eva, and love soon develops. At what point will they realize they have been writing to each other in the trail journal?

LOVE LETTERS FROM THE TRAIL is filled with emotion and conflict. Eva knows she shouldn’t hate Jared because he isn’t responsible for her husband betraying her trust by having an affair and keeping a child secret. She has coped by basically ignoring Jared even though he is the B & B cook. Her two adult daughters have accepted Jared, and they precariously tiptoe around Eva about the subject. It also annoys her that hikers come onto her property. They need to stay on the trail. Cruz offers to build a fence around her cottage, and they spend time getting to know each other. However, neither catch any clues that they are Rolling Stone and Blue Moon. Readers will sense that if they thought about it, then it would connect.

Both Eva and Cruz are older, which means they have a lot of life experiences behind them. Cruz comes from a wealthy family but has opted out of working in the family business. His sister, Millie, arrives in town. She has her own issues to work on, but she is also encouraging him to return to Denver and the family business. But he loves hiking. The family around Eva and Cruz see that they are growing to care for each other and encourage it, but our couple can’t see a future together. She is still focused on her late husband’s betrayal, while he worries about the cancer returning. Can they get past all this and find happiness together?

An intriguing and different kind of romance don’t miss LOVE LETTERS FROM THE TRAIL.
