| Florida & Alaska – Present Day Cruise ship assistant manager Kaylin Sampson loses a promotion opportunity she really wanted (and deserved), so she takes time off work to lick her wounds. Her sister suggests spending her time off in Florida but that would mean running into Ethan Harrington, a man she dated weeks ago and broke off when she realized he wanted a serious relationship. Kaylin decides to take a cruise ship vacation to Alaska, but when she arrives at the port in Seattle to board the ship, who should also happen to be there: Ethan Harrington. Her sister is trying to play matchmaker. Due to an unexpected change in plans, Ethan and Kaylin end up sharing a two-bedroom stateroom on the ship, agreeing to be platonic roommates. However, an incident while on a tour near Juneau ends their cruise abruptly. The two find themselves spending the night in a hotel nearby but there’s a little problem. The owners won’t let them share the only room left unless they are married. Ethan and Kaylin marry but believe it is a make-believe marriage because the hotel owner surely can’t legally marry anyone. Oops…wrong. It is a legal marriage. What will they do now? AN ALASKAN ARRANGEMENT is a bit of a different kind of romance and one I enjoyed reading. Kaylin has worked hard to advance her career after being raised in foster care after she and her sister were abandoned by their single mother. Naturally, she is independent and doesn’t need a man to help her. Ethan is a successful former Olympic swimmer, and he could throw money at her but recognizes, for the most part, that she doesn’t need him. When they are “forced” to marry, they take advantage of their wedding night…and more. They soon spend time at a remote house in Alaska owned by Ethan’s brother. Yet, the more they are around each other, the more they are falling in love. What will happen when their time together is over, and they must go their separate ways? Can they make their “shotgun marriage” work? Readers will find Kaylin and Ethan likable and root for them to find a way to stay together. But first, they must work out compromises so that neither are left short in their relationship. If she decides to stay employed with the cruise line, it means lots of time spent apart. Ethan is about to embark on a new career, one that could leave her just being his spouse. What will they decide? AN ALASKAN ARRANGEMENT is an enjoyable tale that I highly recommend. While part of the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers series, this works well as a standalone for readers. Patti Fischer |
