Charlotte, North Carolina – Present Day Camryn, Savannah, Trishy, and Kristin are the four women who worship together and are the Moving Word Mavens for the Moving Word church. They are the influencers who get the word out about their church and religion in general. They, like the others at their church, revere Pastor Kyle and his wife, Cassidy. In TOO BLESSED TO STRESS, we get the point of view from each of the women. Their lives aren’t perfect, but they try to hide their “imperfections” because they are supposed to be role models. From being in debt to infertility, to not being the virgin that she pretends to be, and hoping to forget the scandal that once rocked her reality TV family, the four women have bonded. But are there about to be secrets coming out into the open? I won’t go into what problem each woman has. They even keep secrets from each other. This tale can be a bit preachy at times. After all, they claim to be Christian and follow the Bible. They are preparing for a big gala that highlights the church and gives to a charity that fights human trafficking. Yet Pastor Kyle and Cassidy don’t seem as committed to the cause. They’re more occupied with how much money can be brought into the church. The pastor and his wife are living the high life, which seems at odds with their teachings, which are to live frugally and give to the causes that help others. Behind the veneers of the church, is there something else going on? Besides the women, there are other characters in TOO BLESSED TO STRESS, but there are too many to list. The main storylines are the women’s work in getting ready for the gala and dealing with their various problems. Despite their shared faith and vision, the four women do argue from time to time. They are social influencers and have to put their best foot forward for the Church. But are they really appreciated by Pastor Kyle and Cassidy? Both seem to tune out the women even as they continue to press them to get “God’s Word and the message of their church” out there. If you have any thoughts about some of those mega churches, then you get the idea of this book. An interesting read for sure, TOO BLESSED TO STRESS may not be for everyone. But if you like to read about people with secrets and problems and how they solve them, then this tale is for you. Patti Fischer |
