Denver Colorado, Present Day

When a tragic plane crash took the lives of two happily married couples almost two decades ago, it left fifteen children as orphans. The eldest son of each family took over raising their younger brothers and sisters and did a fine job. The cousins and siblings are a close and loving family. (From the review of ZANE, July 2013.)

Today, the Denver Westmorelands are a thriving extended family, many married and producing the next generation. Attorney Canyon Westmoreland was almost one of that number, but he was caught in a setup that looked as though he betrayed his lover, Keisha Ashford, with her best friend. Nothing he could say or do could sway her; she just wouldn't believe in his innocence, and she left the area for Texas.

Now Keisha is back in town and has been for several months. She and Canyon have run into each other, but she's managed to have as little to do with him as possible. He feels the need to have a good talk with her to clear the air between them and maybe put a period to the whole thing. He waits for her to leave her office, planning to follow her home to at least learn where she lives. As he does, he notices that his is not the only car following hers. By following her, he also learns that she has a son, one with the distinctive look of a Westmoreland. Now Canyon has a reason to hate Keisha with the same intensity she has for him. But that won't stop Canyon from inserting himself into his son's life. The whole Westmoreland clan extends a loving welcome to Keisha and Canyon's son Beau.

Things are far from simple, for underneath the hurt, the two still desire each other. Canyon's paternal instincts are strong and so are his protective ones, for it's obvious that someone is out to cause bad trouble for Keisha. Who could it be? Someone from Texas? Something to do with her law practice there or here?

CANYON is an excellent blend of a steamy love story, a heartwarming family tale, and page-turning suspense. It follows last month's story of cousin Zane and precedes that of Canyon's brother Stern coming in September. Even though the middle of a new trilogy, it's actually the twenty-fifth book starring the wildly scattered Westmorelands. I can't speak for them all, but readily recommend CANYON for your reading pleasure.
