England – Present Day Ava Green is a leading scientist in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and rarely interacts with others outside her lab. But she has been invited to a big competition with a large prize. At the meet and greet, she surveys her competition. Hal is a gorgeous hunk, and his specialty is nearly like hers. Forrest is a poet whose poems don’t necessarily rhyme. He seems out of place in this competition, but he, like Ava, appears bent on winning the prize. Unfortunately, Forrest and Ava start battling each other right from the start. Hal, on the other hand, is charming and gracious toward Ava. As he charms her, a startling thought arises inside her. He is a lot like her AI program, “Free Thought.” In fact, Ava soon realizes that Hal is a come-to-life robot, with all her information from “Free Thought” being used for his thoughts and actions. How did that happen? Is Ava falling for someone who is not really human? Did she dream him up? That is what she’ll have to decide in the unusual MY BRILLIANT AI BOYFRIEND. As she grapples with what is going on, she is also starting to see Forrest in a different light. He turns out to be a single father of an adorable little girl. Everywhere she turns, she runs into Forrest, and it isn’t always in a good way. He clearly disapproves of her. Of course, it all started when they bumped into each other at the opening ceremony, and she spilled red wine on his silk shirt. It was an accident! Meanwhile, Hal is wooing Ava, and she isn’t sure if she should take the next step in their relationship. Kiss him…or more? Would it be real? We only see Ava’s thoughts in MY BRILLIANT AI BOYFRIEND, so we don’t know what Hal or Forrest truly thinks about her. Hal, though, is falling for her. He probably was in love with her before he created himself, so he could be around the woman he cares for. Despite his robot status in human form, he does turn out to be helpful to her. Ava also soon encounters the ghost of the castle where they are staying. The Blue Lady only seems to appear in her presence. Is there a reason, and if so, what do they want from Ava? There are plenty of chuckle-worthy scenes in MY BRILLIANT AI BOYFRIEND and lots of oops moments to keep you entertained. While it takes a while for the romance part to get started, and we’re not sure if Ava will end up with Hal or Forrest, it does come together at the end pretty fast. Who will win the big prize? Will Hal remain in his human form forever? If you love a romance with a fantasy twist, then don’t miss MY BRILLIANT AI BOYFRIEND. Patti Fischer |
