Whispering Canyon, Wyoming – Present Day Megan Wheeler is trying to rebuild her life with her daughter, Emma, and recover after a devastating marriage to the man who abused her. Her cousin and best friend, Tess, is now married to Holt, whose brother, Flynn Chandler, has become friends with Meg and Emma. Former military contractor Flynn was medevac’d home two years ago after a rescue operation went sideways. He mostly keeps to himself while working on the family ranch. Of course, since they are connected by marriage, Meg and Flynn continually run into each other. While Meg finds him attractive, she’s not in the market for a relationship. Protecting Emma is her priority. Flynn is finally coerced into accepting a job as a deputy with the Whispering Canyon police department. It is a thirty-minute drive to the ranch where he lives, so when Meg offers him the use of her spare bedroom on late nights when he’s working, he accepts. Their friendship soon turns into something more as an attraction slowly builds. But Flynn sees himself as unworthy of love, especially since he can’t forget that his cousin, Ellis, is MIA after the failed mission where Flynn was injured. THE DEPUTY’S SECOND CHANCE is an emotional tale that will resonate with readers and make them want to root for Meg and Flynn. She married a man she didn’t really know because she was pregnant. He turned out to be abusive, and just as she got away from him, it enraged him even more. He’s dead now, and she’s rebuilding a life in Whispering Canyon. But the scars were still there, and to help, Meg went to a group counseling meeting, where she met Flynn. He has both physical and mental scars from what happened overseas. He is a quiet man, but sweet little Emma has brought out the good in him. It probably helps that he’s also attracted to Meg. Their relationship slowly develops and living part-time under the same roof means spending some time together. It is like they are making a family. But they aren't looking for love, nor thinking about marriage. Surely Cupid will have other ideas? Once their hearts are healed from painful memories, can they find love? I loved the premise of THE DEPUTY’S SECOND CHANCE with all the powerful emotion flowing throughout and the love slowly rising until it couldn’t be denied. Flynn has built a wall around his heart, while Meg obviously has to be careful after her bad marriage. But love has other ideas. Don’t miss this enjoyable tale. Patti Fischer |
