Boston, Massachusetts – Present

Three best friends (Aubrey, Ilena, and Mallory) are on the verge of presenting their newest app to the public, which is based on the game of “kiss, marry, kill.” It’s a Friday night, and the whole office is celebrating at a party. As the three friends sit around a fire pit and discuss the future, they muse for fun on what their choices would be if the options were presented to them. Aubrey would kiss Kai, a new employee. Ilena would marry Felix, the company’s general counsel. While Mallory would kill Grayson, one of the company’s investors, and a man with whom she has been sleeping. Then their world goes blank, and they wake up the next morning. Aubrey has not only kissed Kai, but she has also slept with him. Ilena finds herself married to Felix and is heavily pregnant with his child. Mallory wakes up and discovers Grayson is dead, and she has blood on herself. Is this real, or are the three living in a nightmare? Can they go back?

Let’s cut to the chase. KISS, MARRY, KILL is complicated and can be confusing to readers at times. This tale is told alternately from the perspectives of these three best friends, and we have to wonder how they ended up this way. As it is, while some things are the same, other things have changed. I won’t go into detail about what is different, as it might be a spoiler. Needless to say, all three women are confused. They can’t talk to others about what is going on, only with each other. They worry about how they can get back to their real life. As for Grayson’s death, Mallory can’t remember what happened. The three decide to hide his body and pretend that he mysteriously went out of town. It soon becomes a game of cat and mouse to keep ahead of anyone, including the police, who might be checking Grayson’s whereabouts. Other than their changed lives (!!!), life goes on as they move closer to their app’s release. Lots of work still needs to be done. Meanwhile, they try to figure out how to get back

I found KISS, MARRY, KILL fast-paced at the beginning, and then it did start to drag a little, but then it picks up again in the final few chapters. While it is a contemporary, there is a bit of fantasy in it. Who wouldn’t want to see what their lives would be like if it had turned out a little bit differently? Some chapters go back to times in the past, such as when they were at college. We see how the three became friends and then decide to work together. By the end of this tale, we have to wonder if the three women will manage to make it back, or even if they want to. Readers will need to grab a copy of KISS, MARRY, KILL to find out the answer. I have no doubt that your mind will be blown away by the storyline.
