Seattle, Washington and Sandspit, Canada – Present Day

A Bride on the Run…

Lexie Kowalsky was about to marry her reality show groom on live television when she changes her mind and escapes just before the ceremony starts. She isn't sure where to go, but her best friend, Marie, arranges for her to be flown to remote Sandspit, Canada. Still dressed in her wedding dress, Lexie arrives at the seaplane dock and has to be pushed into it with her petticoat and poufy gauzed dress. As she's laying there catching her breath, she suddenly realizes there's someone else on board besides the pilot. So, Lexie asks him to help undress her…

He's Going to be in a Whole Lot of Trouble

Pro hockey star Sean Knox instantly knows who Lexie is. She's his coach's daughter, and touching her might end up with him getting killed by her father. But Sean's intrigued by Lexie and assists her out of her outfit, while she insists she wants to hide out in Sandspit until the scandal dies down. Sean is on his way there to spend a few days with his mother and agrees to help Lexie. Unfortunately, he can't help but have contact with her and it leads to an attraction that could cause an even bigger scandal.

When Lexie agreed to appear on television's hottest reality show, Getting Hitched , she was only looking for exposure for her startup business that sells doggie apparel and accessories. But her competitive nature led to her winning and getting a marriage offer from the groom-to-be. Lexie thought she was in love, but reality hits her as she's standing in the room about to march down the aisle, and she asks Marie for help to escape. Once in Sandspit, Lexie is like a fish out of water, but connects with Sean's mother, who is a hypochondriac. She also thinks Sean's last name is Brown, the same as his mother, and doesn't recognize him as the newest member of her father's team (he was just traded to the Seattle Chinooks). The night before they're both to leave town, they hook up. The sex is great, and she figures she'll never see him again. Oh, how wrong she is…

Sean knew Lexie would discover who he is eventually, but he hopes her father doesn't find out Sean bedded his daughter. After she spots him in a game one night, she confronts him and tells him to never to spill about their secret hookup. But then mysterious pictures are published of them together—kissing that last night—which show up on gossip sites. No one has yet recognized who was kissing Lexie, but it's only a matter of time if someone asks around in Sandspit. Lexie comes up with this idea that they pretend to be in love and that is why she ran away from the wedding. True love wins in the end! Sean hates the idea, because the last thing he wants is to get involved in the drama and chaos that hangs around Lexie. But he also doesn't want to lose his job…

THE ART OF RUNNING IN HEELS is one of those quirky, funny, entertaining, and deliciously enjoyable books that can't be put down and a big reason I had to award it a Perfect 10 from RRT. From the moment Lexie is running on the dock in her wedding finery (and high heels), heading for the seaplane, readers know they're about to be hit with some pure fun from the pen of Rachel Gibson. Lexie is the oldest daughter of John and Georgeanne Kowalsky, who found love in Ms. Gibson's first ever published book, SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE. They're back! And of course, they're protective of their daughter. Sean is finding himself a little head over his heels while being around Lexie, but she's the best thing that's happened to him.

Lexie ran away to escape a marriage made in television, only to find Sean, a match made just for her. Run (but you might want to skip the high heels) to the nearest bookstore and grab a copy of THE ART OF RUNNING IN HEELS. You won't be sorry.
