Henderson, Indiana – Present Day Mathematician Aubrey MacLean had the career she wanted in New York City, but it implodes when a fellow employee steals her design and presents it as his own. Suspended from work, she decides to return to her hometown of Henderson to lick her wounds. She realizes that it holds a lot of painful memories for her, specifically the memories of Nick Thacker, the boy who broke her heart. Aubrey arrives in town but needs a ride to her family’s old home by a guy she knew (and disliked) in high school, Gallant. To her surprise, she spots Nick. He is older and burlier, but just as handsome. He is also a married father of a teenage daughter. However, he spots her and is soon at her doorstep. Both realize that the circumstances aren’t right for them to reunite. Aubrey is soon asked out to dinner by Gallant. She accepts, but the guy doesn’t have the best personality. He starts handing her love letters that he claims are written by him. Kind of like saying he can’t express to her face what he feels, so he puts it in writing. They are beautiful and romantic. Aubrey should at least attempt to see where their relationship goes, right? But she doesn’t know that Gallant secretly hired Nick to write these letters. That is why the words look so familiar, because young Nick used to write beautiful love letters to Aubrey. Then, people around them force Nick and Aubrey together. Will love find them a second time? It won’t be easy. I must admit that when I first started LOVE LETTERS FOR OTHER PEOPLE, I wasn’t sure if it would hold my interest. It took two to four chapters before I began to care for Aubrey and Nick. He is stuck in a loveless marriage to Tansy, but he loves their daughter Paige and will do anything for her, including raising money by offering a love letter writing service. In this tale, we go from the present day back to seventeen years ago when Nick and Aubrey met as high school seniors. He was quiet, yet he thought nothing of stepping in to protect Aubrey’s honor. They fell in love with each other and began to make plans together. But fate stepped in when Nick inexplicitly cheated on Aubrey with Tansy, who got pregnant. He did the honorable thing by marrying her and raising their daughter together. They all live together, but Nick does not sleep with Tansy. He still carries a torch for Aubrey. Their second chance for romance builds slowly in LOVE LETTERS FOR OTHER PEOPLE. First off, neither Aubrey nor Nick is trying to get back together. They are just pulled together and can’t help but feel the attraction. Meanwhile, she is trying to deal with what to do during the couple of months she will be in Henderson. She gets involved in a winter festival and is paired with Paige. Of course, this means she runs into Nick. He is still the quiet guy who continues to rescue Aubrey. She doesn’t realize in this tale how much he has fought for her, even though he never tried to win her forgiveness seventeen years ago. See what drove them apart and then wonder how it can be fixed. Meanwhile, Gallant is continuing to woo Aubrey. His goal is to get her into his bed, almost like he’s still a teenager wanting another notch on his bedpost. Will she discover how dishonest he is? Will Nick win her heart again? A beautiful and emotional tale that you won’t soon forget, don’t miss LOVE LETTERS FOR OTHER PEOPLE. Patti Fischer |
