This handsome book is a companion to the PBS Masterpiece mini-series of Downton Abbey. It's now the beginning of the 1920s as the third season of this popular TV show opens on January 6. World War I is over, and major (and subtle) changes are taking place in England's society…and so also at Downton, home of the extended Crawley family and their staff of servants.

In a fascinating foreword by Julian Fellowes, Downton Abbey 's creator, writer, and executive producer, we are given behind the scenes glimpses of this popular series. Mr. Fellowes tells us of the sources of inspiration for some of his characters and how it all came about.

After that—amid full page color photographs—the authors write of the principal characters and information gathered from interviews with the actors who portray them, making for enthralling reading!

THE CHRONICLES OF DOWNTON ABBEY references all three seasons with background enough to enjoy the familiar while being eager for the new. The hardcover edition is larger than the normal hardcover, roughly 7 ¾ X 9 ½ inches, providing an excellent showcase for these wonderful photos of the cast and items from the period. It's a beautiful book that I highly recommend to anyone caught up in the world of Downton Abbey .
