Kansas City, Missouri – Present Day Jamilah Carver owns a restaurant named Side Chic’k that isn’t generating as much income as she’d like. In fact, she has had to cut the days and hours it’s open, further reducing her revenue. When her best friend and chef, Blair, quits to take a better-paying job at another restaurant, Jamilah is desperate to find a replacement chef. At a friend’s party, she meets Rashad White, a newly released con whose cooking skills are out of this world. She hires him but immediately runs into an issue. He has ideas on how to cook her signature wing dish and wants to add his own recipes. While she insists to him that her customers expect consistency in the food, she has to admit that his food is excellent. They manage to get past their conflicts and become more than friends. But the bigger obstacle turns out to be her father’s anger when he learns that she’s hired an ex-con. Since Jamilah’s father helped finance the business, she is going to have to choose between her father and Rashad. Once they’re out of prison, it’s hard for an ex-con to get accepted by society. In CHAMPAGNE TASTE ON A BAD BOY BUDGET, Rashad gets an opportunity to redeem himself by doing something that he loves: cooking. His crimes were not serious, more of being in the wrong place. But he’s out and has big dreams. First off is to stay out of trouble, and the second one is to eventually open his own business. With no job, Rashad easily accepts Jamilah’s job offer. He will prove to her that he can cook, though he questions some of the prior chef’s cooking decisions. In this tale, Jamilah and Rashad go toe-to-toe as they face off. Who will win the cooking war? Jamilah is grateful for the financial backing her father has given her, but Rashad is exactly who she needs in her kitchen. What she doesn’t mention to her father is that he’s sharing her bed too. Is she letting lust overrule common sense? Yet, as readers see, Rashad is a decent person. He is honest and serious about starting a new life in Kansas City (he’s originally from California). Their attraction sizzles in and out of bed. With his cooking prowess, it seems to be a no-brainer for Jamilah to keep him on, but her father wields a big stick. How will she get around her father’s ultimatum? Readers will enjoy the chemistry and sexy banter between Jamilah and Rashad. They fit together like wine and cheese. Will his suggestions help her restaurant get off its feet after a few stutter steps along the way? Will they make their partnership a love match?
