Thunder Point, Oregon – Present Day

When Peyton Lacoumette finds the small town of Thunder Point on the Oregon coast, she's delighted to learn it's much like the farming community where she grew up.  People here care about each other.  She fled from her life and her job in Portland, running from the mess she made of the last three years of her life.  Now, all she desires is to find peace in a place where she can rent a little cottage that's all her own.  A physician's assistant, Peyton recently worked for a top flight cardiologist.  Somehow, when she wasn't looking, their after-work relationship fizzled when she ended up being the sole caretaker for Dr. Ted Ramsdale's children while he spent his time playing golf and saving lives.  She closed her eyes to their problems until she walked in on him and another woman.

Thunder Point's Dr. Scott Grant desperately needs help in his clinic, but he's sure this classy woman who drives a brand new Lexus and looks like a model, will never accept the job he offered, or the paltry sum he can afford to pay.  Yet, here she is, agreeing to work for him for three months!  There is an instant attraction between them, but Peyton has made it clear that she's not interested in men!  Scott is a widower with two small children, and he's finally ready for a new relationship, but Thunder Point isn't the best place to meet single women.  So, when someone like Peyton shows up, he is definitely interested.  Too bad she isn't.

THE PROMISE Peyton makes to Scott: she will stay for three months, then she goes back to the city and greater heights (and bigger bucks).  Scott's clinic is small, and Peyton isn't used to making herself available around the clock.  She's used to regular nine to five hours, but she admires Scott's dedication to his patients, and it isn't long before she realizes that this small town doctor's clinic is crucial to the town.  Peyton has barely started working for Scott when he's needed at an accident and she's left alone, watching his two small children, Will and Jenny.  Right back where she started! Peyton realizes she is repeating the mistakes she made with Ted.  Here she is, working for a single doctor/parent again!

THE PROMISE is a complex story of two people who are afraid to love again.  Scott lost his wife in childbirth when Jenny was born.  He knows he has to start over again, but he cannot conceive finding another loving connection with a different woman.  Contrary to her past mistakes, Peyton loves children.  She comes from a large family, but after being burned by her last lover, she fears Scott is just another single father looking for a helping nursemaid.  Both Scott and Peyton have a lot of bridges to cross in their journey to each other, but as the sparks ignite between them, it forges them together as their love is meant to be.

THE PROMISE is the fifth novel in the Thunder Point series, following THE CHANCE (February, 2014), THE WANDERER (April 3013), THE NEWCOMER (July 2013), and THE HERO (September 2013). For a list of all the books, please visit the author's website:  www.robyncarr.com .
