Whispering Winds Ranch, Wyoming – Present Day Mia Hawthorne got into an ugly confrontation with one of her fellow employees, so she was sent to the Whispering Winds Dude Ranch for anger management therapy. She doesn’t want to be there. She feels she doesn’t need anger management therapy, but if she wants to keep her job, she must comply. Mia isn’t the country or cowboy type, and she’s feeling out of place when she arrives. The sweet lady who greets her is nice and tells Mia that she is being assigned to Silas Crockett. He’s all cowboy and very much a macho man. He’s there to help Mia, but all she keeps telling him is that she is fine. Well, there is much more to Mia than feeling fine. And it soon turns out that Silas has his own ghosts. I won’t spoil what is going on with Mia and Silas in CAPTURING THE COWBOY, but I will say that when you learn their backgrounds, you will understand why they tend to keep their emotions locked inside. That is, until one explodes, like what happened in Mia’s case. Her fellow employee was a misogynistic jerk, and one day, he went too far, and she attempted to choke him with his own necktie. Well, one can understand why Human Resources stepped in. At first, Mia doesn’t want to discuss what happened or her feelings with Silas, but slowly and surely, she opens up to him. But it’s the next step—her past—that will be harder for her to share. We also know from the hints early on in this tale that Silas has his own sorrowful past. Will they finally reveal to each other their past, and will it bring them closer together? As readers can probably tell, CAPTURING THE COWBOY is an emotional tale that will leave you both stunned and saddened by what Mia and Silas have experienced. I love that the author sprinkles little hints here and there, so when the big reveals come, it leaves you with a “ah, ha!” feeling. Mia is a woman who at first doesn’t feel comfortable on the ranch, but she is a hard worker and soon adapts. Apart from the emotion in this tale, there are also some funny moments, like when she gets attached to a calf. Let’s just say that we can see Silas falling for Mia during these times when he takes her seriously, even as he smiles at her antics. If you love a romance set on a ranch that makes you laugh and cry, then CAPTURING THE COWBOY is the one for you. Patti Fischer |
