Cumberland, Rhode Island – Present Day Eve Mitchell grew up as the daughter of the man who owned the local strip club in Cumberland. After her father died, rather than selling it to rid herself of the stain, she turned it into a burlesque club. Of course, that still doesn’t sit right with the folks in town, who continue to either avoid her or sneer at her. But the one bright spot in her life since she was a teenager has been Madden Donahue. He’s always been her protector and kept her shielded from a lot of vitriol that’s thrown at her. The club is struggling, so when a stranger by the name of Veda comes in and suggests a new type of venue be built in the back of the club, Eve takes it seriously. Anything to keep her livelihood alive, plus it is helping her to support her niece and nephew while their mother is in drug rehab. Then Eve’s nephew gets sick. That’s a problem because none of them have health insurance. Is she about to lose everything? Madden has just been called up to the New York Yankees as their catcher. Of course, despite a life in New York, he still comes to Cumberland, where he’s lived since he was a teenager who came to the United States from Ireland. He pops into town to check on Eve. He’s not fond of her owning a club, but he has no business telling her what to do. When he finds out that her nephew is sick and they have no insurance, he offers a solution. Marry him for six months for health insurance. In six months, Eve’s sister will be back to claim the children. Eve doesn’t really want to do it but has no choice. He has only one other request: their marriage must be consummated. Madden has been secretly in love with Eve since he first met her. What he doesn’t know is that she feels the same way. Will they finally tell each other? I really loved this book. CATCH HER IF YOU CAN has it all: Two likeable characters. A fun, different, and interesting premise. A read that you can’t put down and will have you rooting for Eve and Madden to find a forever kind of love. For this reason, I am giving it A Perfect 10. Eve is sassy and smart, plus she can get Madden to hover over her. Oh, she doesn’t intentionally get him to “heel,” but he will do just about anything for her. Eve’s life growing up wasn’t easy. How could it be when her father ran a strip club? She’s also beautiful, which attracts the men who figure that she’s easy to get into bed. But no man is going to penetrate the wall she’s put up. Not even Madden if she so desires. But there is this beautiful connection between them that he doesn’t realize yet. I won’t give away what it is because you will need to find out for yourself and see how he reacts. In CATCH HER IF YOU CAN, we don’t know a whole lot about Madden’s life before he left Ireland, but we do know it became better for him in the U.S. He is close to Elon, Skylar, and Eve, whom he all met in high school. The first time Skylar and Eve met Madden, Skylar declared that he was going to be hers, but she has now moved on to a new love in her life. You can read Skylar’s tale in PITCHER PERFECT, out now. Eve has kept silent all these years about her feelings for Madden. He has no idea, and when he finds out, he is probably going to fall to his knees in relief. Their story of finally getting their love story will leave readers happy and smiling, just like it did me.
