Deputy Sheriff Flint Hollister is on a personal mission to Idaho to learn more about his father’s lineage because there are a couple of missing holes. Flint had learned that a half-sister his father didn’t know about lived in Idaho, but when he arrives at her ranch, he discovers that she died six months ago, and his grandfather’s ex-wife has dementia and is in a care facility. The caretaker, Pippa Shanahan, inherited the ranch and continues to run it…alone. It’s clear to Flint that Pippa is overworked, so he informs her that he plans to stick around Bonner’s Ferry in hopes she can find any information for him. He also plans to help her on the ranch. Then, Pippa gets sick, and Flint must stay on the ranch to help her. 

Pippa has no family as she was abandoned as an infant and raised in foster care. Flint’s half-aunt, Debra, was like a mother to her after she got hired at the ranch. But despite hanging onto the ranch, there’s little money in the bank. Flint wants to help Pippa despite her protests. He’s a good man. But will he break her heart if she gives in to the feelings that she has begun to feel for him?

The more Flint is around Pippa, the more he wants to stay by her side in STONE CREEK SHERIFF. Of course, his objective is to find information about his grandfather’s past, which had suddenly turned murky while they were digging. The man isn’t alive to ask questions, so the family has to rely on documents. Pippa obviously isn’t family, but she was close to his half-aunt. She is also cooperating with looking for any paperwork there might be in the house. Flint quickly grows to respect Pippa. She is a hard worker and nearly refuses his help. But once she is sick, she can’t say no. The time spent together has them drawing closer to each other as an attraction soon builds. But Flint will be returning to Utah, so there’s no hope for a future together.
