New York City – Present Day

Screenwriter Elle Leon is given the opportunity to write a screenplay that is set in New York. The only requirement is to submit it to the studio by the end of August. She has been experiencing writer’s block, so she is grateful when a friend offers her the use of her New York City apartment for the summer. Elle can visit the locations and experience the sights and sounds of where her screenplay will take place. Shortly after she arrives, she visits a nearby coffee house and is stunned to see a man from her past. Elle met tech billionaire Parker Warren two years ago while attending a party. The two chatted and made out in the stairwell at the party but she dismissed him as an arrogant self-serving rich man.  Elle escapes from the coffee house to head home but finds out to her horror that Parker happens to live next door to her. They share the same floor in her apartment building.

While Parker doesn’t indicate that he remembers Elle from two years ago, he is friendly with her. He then asks her to help him because he is trying to close a business deal, but the paparazzi are trying to hook him up with whatever vapid blonde is the flavor of the month. Parker asks Elle to pretend to be his girlfriend for the summer. All she has to do is attend events with him. She agrees and thus begins their friendship. But the more they are around each other, the more their relationship grows. Is a romance brewing? Not if Elle has her way. She has no plans to become romantically involved with a rich man.

One might wonder why Elle isn’t interested in romances with wealthy men. It takes until late in SUMMER IN THE CITY that we learn about something important from her past and it explains her hesitation. She is okay with having somewhat of a friendship with Parker but nothing beyond that. As it happens, going out and being seen with Parker has Elle feeling some trepidation but she is soon over that. Finally, the words begin to flow on her laptop as she writes the screenplay. Parker is one of those guys who will do anything for Elle, even buy the coffee house for her so she can have her favorite morning pastry. Heck, he is as rich as they come. They also spend time taking runs around the city and getting to know each other even better. Readers soon realize that they are perfect for each other. Parker might be rich, but he isn’t pretentious. Elle might not be rolling in dough, but she knows how to dress to impress. However, when Parker wants to buy her jewelry, that is where she draws the line.

Elle and Parker have an easy relationship and are comfortable with each other. They might kiss here and there but it’s a “no sex” relationship for now. Readers will enjoy their banter and their interactions with each other. When the crisis occurs in the book, then we wonder if they will have a happy ending. Trust has to be earned, and walls have to come down. Will Elle and Parker get what they want? Don’t miss SUMMER IN THE CITY.
