Romantic Suspense
Montana – Present Day
Returning to her small hometown in Montana, Frankie
Castor is usually a by-the-book kind of girl, but if her school
coworkers and family find out that she’s taken a second
job as a server at a seedy bar, more than her reputation will
be kaput. One night at the bar, a bet dares her to flirt with
the resident mystery man who’s been coming to the bar. Alone.
Before she knows it, Frankie is sashaying up to a hunky mysterious
customer to take his drink order, flirt, and get a name. Mystery
Guy been drinking in solitude with only a laptop for company for
a couple of weeks now, and more than the curiosity of several
girls has been raised. Surprisingly, he leads her onto the dance
floor, but with more questions than answers.
Ryan Harper has learned to live in the shadows and
meld in with the scenery, always dodging inquiries as to what
he does for a living. If people ever found out that he was a covert
ops agent, they’d either laugh in disbelief or act as if
they’d always known. Returning to his small Montana hometown,
Ryan is here to recover and regroup and find out who exactly sold
him out as a leak. His recent mission was almost his last, and
now Ryan trusts no one but his father. Hanging out in a bar is
not exactly Ryan’s answer to spending time, but the anonymity
it affords him allows him to search the internet for answers he
needs to catch the person gunning for him. Hooking up with a waitress
wasn’t what he’d intended, but Frankie hides more
than she tells, and he just can’t help but love a good mystery.
Two people come home, and neither one is looking
for that special somebody. But that’s exactly what they
find in Terry Odell’s WHEN DANGER CALLS. Ryan can rest assured
that somebody either wants him dead or seriously maimed when his
father is injured in a car explosion. If that isn’t a wake-up
call...
Meeting Frankie in the bar where he’s set up
a quasi-headquarters isn’t exactly an earth-shattering experience,
but what he finds beneath her many layers is what really sets
him back on his heels. When she calls on him for help in researching
her mother’s less-than-honest boyfriend, Frankie lays it
all on the table. What she stands for, what she’ll fight
for, and exactly what she’ll do to see her loved ones safe.
Ryan cannot quarrel with that.
WHEN DANGER CALLS is more than romantic suspense;
it's also a love story at its best. It’s exactly the kind
of book that should put Terry Odell on the map, an author to watch
out for in mainstream and paperback fiction. With action that
pops and characters that zing, WHEN DANGER CALLS is more than
a dot on a map.
I’m truly glad that I got the chance to read
this one and honestly look forward to more from Terry Odell.
